Society of Women Engineers

About Us

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization in the United States. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and feel recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders. SWE has over 21,000 members in nearly 100 professional sections and 300 student sections throughout the United States.

The Oregon State University chapter of SWE strives to promote diversity and inclusion in the college of engineering and create a supportive community for engineering students. We host events for our members focused on professional development, academic success, collaborations with fellow student organizations as well as community building activities. SWE also connects members to professional opportunities and provides financial support to attend SWE conferences. The SWEsters program, during fall term, is designed to pair incoming freshman or transfer students with a student mentor and provide opportunities for them to meet others in their major.

Our officers strive to make members feel welcome in our club at OSU. Please join us this year as we continue our mission to uplift and empower engineering students who identify as women! All are welcome!

Our Mission

Encourage women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.

SWEsters (SWE Ambassadors)

The SWEsters program is designed to help incoming freshman or transfer students in engineering as they transition into the OSU community. Our SWE ambassadors come from many different majors and are eager to act as mentors to the SWEsters. This program focuses on connecting students with a mentor in their field and hosting fun events to help them find a community of friends and resources!

Please follow @osu_swesters on Instagram for regular updates on the program!

For questions regarding the SWEsters program, please contact Madeleine Mathews ([email protected]).
