On March 12, 2012, Oregon State University hired Gus L. Bedwell for the newly created Veteran Services Advisor position. Gus was born on August 11, 1974 and spent most of his youth moving around the United States. On March 2, 1992, Gus joined the United State Army Reserves and was stationed with the 20th Psychological Unit in Portland, Oregon. However, after meeting his one true sweetie, Kimbrely A French, Gus joined the Active Army. While in the Army, Gus was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas and Fort Lewis, Washington.
Upon leaving the Army, Gus and Kim returned to Oregon. On August 1, 2000 Gus started his Veterans Advocacy Career with the Oregon Employment Department as a VA Work-Study. Eventually, Gus held the positions of Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER), Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP), Operations Manager with the Office of Administrative Hearings, and I-Match Skills Trainer/Manager Consultant with the Oregon Employment Department.Immediately prior to coming to Oregon State University, Gus worked for the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs as a Campus Veteran Service Officer. During his time with the Oregon Employment Department, Gus graduated from Corbin University (then Western Baptist College) in 2002 with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology (emphasis on Family Studies) using his VA Education benefits. Gus lives in Aumsville, Oregon with his wife of 19 years, Kimbrely Bedwell and their four darling children, Aja (pronounced Asia), Christopher, James, and Abigail.
