GEC projects are the main activity for club members, and the timeline spans across winter term, with fall term being dedicated to socializing and brainstorming and spring term being dedicated to polishing and presenting results. Weekly meetings start with the opportunity to present proposals for new projects, time to hear updates from existing projects, and time to socialize with other club members or ask for additional group members.

Project Proposals

The project proposal does not need to be an extensive document with every detail planned out. This is a short presentation to the rest of the club to clear up potential snags early and make sure you intend to stick with the project. A budget breakdown is required, but similarly loose in specificities. You don't need to decide on specific models of parts or pick vendors yet, but you do need to know a ballpark range for everything you're gonna need to make your project a reality. Will you need an arduino? A web server? Some MDF? Here's a good checklist for what you should cover with a project proposal:

  • Description of project / end goal
  • Who is working on the project
  • Why each person wants to work on it
  • When you will regularly meet to work
  • Project steps list with estimated deadlines
  • Budget breakdown

Project Timelines

You should plan to have your project in working order by the end of Winter Term. In the spring, we will work on polishing it up and presenting it, whether that is writing effective resume bullet points, writing an article, or any other way you would like to share your experience.
