About Us

The objectives of this Organization shall be to:

  1. give students the opportunity to bolster their resume and gain experience in events relating to chemistry,
  2. provide resources and assistance to Oregon State University students who are looking to engage in research, who are looking to enter directly into the workforce after graduation, or who are looking to attend a graduate program, and
  3. encourage people of underrepresented groups to pursue careers in STEM, as well as to spread awareness of current issues and recent findings in STEM to the general public

Membership

Membership shall not be denied to any student on the basis of age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.

Membership in this Organization is open to all current students at Oregon State University who have an interest in the field of chemistry. Students are not required to purchase a membership through the American Chemical Society, though they are encouraged to in order to gain access to the wealth of resources available to the Society’s members.

Attendance at meetings is not required except for members in leadership roles, though attendance is monitored for purposes of determining leadership eligibility. Members who attend at least five meetings during the term, as well as at least one outreach event, are considered “active members”, and as such are eligible to run for a leadership position within the Organization.

Membership with the Organization can begin at any time by contacting a member of the Organization’s leadership staff.

Outreach Officers: Makenzie Nord (Member, Public Relations, Philanthropy, and Community Service), Nan-Chieh Chiu (Webmaster)

Duties:

President:

  1. Enforces a proper observation of the Organization's Constitution.
  2. Organizes all meetings and agenda.
  3. Provides motivation and enthusiasm for members and prospective members of the Organization.
  4. Has open communication with students/fellow members/faculty/advisors.
  5. Responsible for handling all paperwork and coordinating meetings pertaining to the status and standing of the Organization
  6. Must be prepared to cover all officer positions.
  7. Be available for any needs that the faculty advisor requests.

Vice President:

  1. Assumes the duties and responsibilities in the absence of the President.
  2. Be prepared to assist the President with whatever he/she needs.
  3. Responsible for the fundraiser paperwork.
  4. Responsible for the publicity for all Organization fundraisers and events.

Secretary:

  1. Keeps minutes and attendance of each meeting.
  2. Is available for any secretarial needs that the faculty advisor requests.
  3. Responsible for the Organization’s e-mail account.

Treasurer:

  1. Responsible for the club’s budget in accordance with the University guidelines.
  2. Keeps an active record of all expenses.
  3. Handles all deposits and withdrawals according to University guidelines.
  4. In charge of all fundraising affiliated with the Organization.
  5. Provides assistance to any other position when necessary.

Outreach Officers:

  1. Responsible for maintaining a social media presence for the Organization.
  2. Focuses on recruiting new members to the Organization.
  3. Assists the Vice President with generating publicity for Organization-sponsored events.

(Each Officer position shall last for one year, from spring term to spring term (except for the Faculty Advisor, which has no set term length.)
